The dedication ceremony took place yesterday at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery (American Cemetery of Nettuno).American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the operation Shingle in Italy and pay homage to the US and Allied forces engaged during the Second World War.

The commemoration was attended by the United States Ambassador to Italy Jack A. Markell, the Vice Admiral of the US Navy Thomas E. Ishee, commander of the Sixth Fleet, the Undersecretary of State for Defense Matteo Perego di Cremnago and the Executive Director for Operations of ABMC, Edmund Ryan.

Il Sicily-Rome American Cemetery it is one of two American cemeteries dedicated to the fallen of the Second World War in Italy, where approximately 8.000 US soldiers are buried. Inside the chapel the names of over 3.000 missing people are engraved. Many of these soldiers lost their lives during the liberation of Sicily, in the landings in the Salerno area and in the heavy fighting towards the north, in the operations on the Anzio coast, in the expansion of the bridgehead and in the air and naval support throughout the region.

At the end of the ceremony we have (surprisingly) found the availability of a member of the Italian government to answer some questions... (see video)

Good vision!
