On Saturday, 12 November will be held at the 10.00, in the "Parco della Montagnola" in Bologna, the commemoration of the terrorist attack on the "Maestrale Base", headquarters of the Multinational Support Unit (MSU) of the Carabinieri, in Nassiriya (Iraq).

At the ceremony, which provides for the deposition of a laurel wreath to the commemorative monument that the Municipality of Bologna wanted to erect in 2004 in perennial memory of the nineteen military and civilian dead, Dr. Bianca LUBRETO will intervene, representing the Prefect of Bologna, the Regional Commander of the Army, Gen. B. Cesare ALIMENTI, the Regional Commanders of the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, as well as numerous military and civil authorities.

The monument, inaugurated the 12 February of 2004, three months after the event, is completed by a flagpole on which a national flag waved in whose white field the 19 names were initially written.

The choice of the park to commemorate the event derives from the strong identity that the place holds for the city of Bologna, as a space dedicated to memory since the early years of the 1800, when it used to host celebrations and military parades.

Furthermore, it was the Montagnola park and the square below, the scene of the battle that led, on 8 August 1848, to the temporary expulsion of the Austrians from the city.

From 12 September 2009, the date also celebrates the "Day of Remembrance of the military and civilian fallen in international peacekeeping missions" and represents the country's recognition of all those who have honored the name of Italy in the world with the highest sacrifice. .
