The 28 October 1911 Happened: First Aeronautical Action

in Tripolitania an airborne action takes place the first in the world - with the participation of the aircraft of the 1a Flottiglia airplanes of Tripoli and of the battleship Sardinia for the bombardment of the oasis of Zanzur (Location to 30 km to the west of Tripoli) where there are some armed Arab bands.

The action is preceded in the morning by an aerial reconnaissance by Lieutenant Ugo de Rossi of the Black Lion on Farman aircraft, followed in the afternoon by captains Carlo Maria Piazza on Blériot and Riccardo Moizo on Niéuport who, flying for 76 minutes in an agitated atmosphere, observe the shooting of the battleship Sardegna and the moves of the enemy referring to the landing.
