The 26 September 1905 happened: Delivered to the Sirio ship

26/09/14

having completed the tests at the Schichau shipyard where it was built, in Elbing the high-seas torpedo boat Sirio is delivered to the Regia Marina, a head class unit of six, armed under the command of Lieutenant Luigi Resio with crew arrived from Italy by rail .

The transfer will take place in stages starting from Pillau on October 6 and the 8 November will be concluded in Genoa. Set the 13 August 1904 at the airport and launched the 13 May of the 1905, the unit fully met the requirements of the Regia Marina aimed at finding a new type of torpedo boat of greater displacement, around 200 t, with good speed, 25 nodes , and of good artillery and underwater armament to enhance its fleet of torpedo boats, although it has numerous units but are now outdated from an operational and technical point of view.

And the new "Schichau" high-sea torpedo boat was at the moment the best the market could offer in terms of operational and technical solutions.

A continuous deck of deck ran for about two thirds of the ship's length, 51 m, to give rise to a castle of considerable size; the armament was centered on three single weapons from 47 / 40 mm (later two from 76 / 40, caliber more suited to the task) and three single torpedo launchers from 450 mm (Whitehead torpedoes with the following characteristics: year of production 1903, caliber 450 mm, length 4,50 m, travel / speed 1000 m / 31,7 nodes or 1500 m / 27,2 nodes) axial and swiveling that allowed an improvement of the possibilities of offense.

As in all “Schichau” constructions, the sturdiness of the structures and the operating reliability of the motor apparatus shone. The "Sirius" were intensively employed without giving rise to inconveniences worthy of note; it was altogether very successful units that in every occasion gave the maximum possible performance per unit of their tonnage. The choice of the names of the constellations for the torpedo boats will be a constant for the Regia Marina.
