The 23 September 1881 happened: Primates for the Vettor Pisani

23/09/14

the corvette Vettor Pisani (commander, captain of frigate Tòmaso di Savoia Genoa) enters Venice from a long campaign in the Far East that led her to 40.000 miles to visit 130 ports particularly of China, Japan and Asian Russia.

Worth mentioning as important travel events: the visit in September to 1880 in Vladivostok, the first foreign warship to enter that port, the future base of the Russian Navy in the Pacific; the participation of the Mikado Meiji in Yokohama on January 7 1881 at the lunch on board (the first time he was on a foreign war ship) and during the stay in the Chinese waters the ascent of the Yang-tze-kiang river, the first time of an Italian military ship and that will become tradition for all the national units that will be stationed in China.

[Yang-tze-kiang: "Blue river", so called by Italian missionaries, about 5800 km long, the longest waterway in Asia and the third longest in the world, is traditionally considered the border between northern China and southern China]
