22 happened September 1915: Ordered 40 trimotori to Isotta Fraschini

22/09/14

A contract is signed with the company Isotta Fraschini of Milan for the construction of 40 three-engined boats (20 in the land version and 20 in the naval version). Even if the model to be built is not specified, everything suggests it is the Caproni triple engine.

Meanwhile, at the Arsenal of Venice, trials had begun for the navalisation of the Caproni trimotor from 300 CV, which however, in addition to continuing over time, had given discouraging results so that the Navy which had deemed it appropriate not to proceed with the production of the terrestrial Caproni, she was also forced to give up the hydro version. But the idea of having a bombing aircraft is by no means abandoned.

The tests of the hydro trimotor from 400 CV designed by the captain of the Genio Navale engineer Luigi Bresciani continue to do so then to reproduce it from the Isotta Fraschini: such is the trust in the positive outcome of the tests that without waiting for the completion, 27 December the contract with Isotta Fraschini will be registered.
