established the framework of the State air shipping in which the Navy aircraft in service are registered. These airships are in all respects equivalent to naval units and the imposition of names and their changes as well as their purchase are ordered by decree.

On the same date, the airship purchased by the Ministry of War for the service in the Navy is given the name Città di Ferrara and is registered in the framework of the state airship with rank corresponding to that of the battleships of 4a class (explorers).

The medium-sized airship, initially called M 2, had a volume of 12.000 m3 and was equipped with two twin-blade propeller motors mounted in a lateral position to the nacelle which gave a speed of 60 km / h.

Equipped with 10 hours of battery life, it had a range of 600 kg and a maximum tangency of 2800. Crew four people: commander, helmsman, engineer and observer.
