05 happened September 1914: First ship sunk by U-boot

British explorer Pathfinder sinks in the North Sea by the German submarine U-21 (commander, Lieutenant Otto Hersing). The British unity has the sad distinction of being the first ship sunk by a submarine.

At the end of the war the commander Hersing will be marked as an ace of the Germanic underwater war with 113.580 t of sunken ship, 41 ships of which four warships (34.575 t), gaining fame among his colleagues as "Zerstörer von schlachtschiffe" (destroyer of battleships).
