05 Happened August 1915: Sunken Nereide Submarine

submarine Nereide (commander, captain of corvette Carlo del Greco) at 05.30 in the unmooring phase in Zadlo (Pelagosa) is struck and sunk by a torpedo by the Austrian submarine U 5 (commander, vessel lieutenant Georg von Trapp) in reconnaissance in the waters in front the island.

The Nereid sinks into two sections with the total loss of the crew, 20 men (two officers, four non-commissioned officers and 14 sailors). The commander of the Greek will be decorated with the gold medal for military valor to memory for an extreme attempt to react.
