The exercise that will be carried out in the waters of the Gulf of Taranto, the Ionian and the southern Adriatic has as its theme, in addition to the execution of tactics and maneuvers together, the carrying out of opposing parties of actions deriving from a state of war with the dislocation of units of a party in the bases of Ionian Sicily (Augusta and Messina) and of the opposing party in the bases of Taranto and Brindisi.
Fuel ship refueling techniques will be tested for the first time, radiotelegraphy will also be widely used in tactical situations; the submarine squads of Venice (Delfino, Glauco and Squalo under the command of frigate captain Mario Casanova Ierserinch) will make its operational debut in the Gulf of Taranto and, finally, three torpedo boat cruisers (Agordat, Coatit, Caprera) will carry out the task of explorers for determine the tactics of use of this new type of unit being built.
The units of the Mediterranean Naval Force will form two teams under the command of vice-admiral Alfonso di Brocchetti and his deputy, rear-admiral Vittorio Moreno, and the units of the Reserve Division under the command of rear-admiral Giovanni Battista Viotti will form the third team: altogether they will take part eight battleships, three armored cruisers, three torpedo cruisers, 12 destroyers, 48 torpedo boats, three submarines and eight auxiliary ships (including a coal ship, a factory vessel, two water vessels).
On Wednesday, 10 starts its operations in the Ionian waters, headed by Lepanto, by Admiral Tòmaso di Savoia and will end on Monday 22.
