5 July 1889: Folgore Collision and John Bausan

the waters of Capri during the navigation of transfer of the Permanent Team from Naples to Palermo, the torpedo-boat Folgore (commander, captain of corvette Vincenzo Capasso) during a training crossing exercise due to an error in maneuver collides with the ram torpedo boat Giovanni Bausan (commander, captain of the vessel Giulio Centurione).

The Folgore (left) suffered very serious damage as the prow of the Bausan (right) penetrated the hull for 1,5 m, bending the propeller shaft. Towed in Naples, the Thunderbolt will be placed in the dock for repair work which will then be continued in Spezia.

The unit will re-enter the 1 October 1890 but efficiency will not be returned to the initial level.
