During the month in La Spezia on an unknown date due to the strict secrecy in progress, the project of the first Italian submarine developed by the director of the Naval Engineer Giacinto Pullino was completed.

It will be set up in 1890 and launched in 1892 with the name Delfino.

It initially had a length of 23,3 meters with a displacement of 98 t and an electric motor that developed 65 hp. During the exercise this prototype will undergo various modifications both to the engine system (added a diesel for use in surfacing) and to the weapons (torpedo tubes) and used during the First World War.

It will be the first Italian submarine and will be radiated in the 1919.
