19 October 1896: Navy unit for transport and escort of Princess Jelena

Monday - The Royal Savoy yacht with the escort of the torpedo rams Stromboli and Bausan leaves Brindisi for Bar where it will arrive the next day to embark and bring in Italy the Princess Jelena of Montenegro with his retinue, Vittorio Emanuele and admiral Tòmaso di Savoia.

The units will arrive at the 21 in Bari where the units of the 2a Division of the Active Team under command of rear-admiral Enrico Gualterio are moored.

In the Apulian capital, in the crypt of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, Princess Jelena will abjure the Orthodox religion by converting to Catholicism and Italianizing the name into Elena. The 24 in Rome will be celebrated with a very subdued ceremony due to the recent defeat at Adua.
