11 October 1888: The Messenger enters service

(To Marina Militare)
11/10/15

Thursday - The wheeled messenger messenger built in the Odero shipyards of Genova Sestri with the setting of the airport in the 1883 and the 13 in July 1885 enters service in Spezia.

Constructed on the same floors of the Messages, appropriately reworked by the inspector of the Naval Genio Edoardo Masdea for the sole purpose of using its still efficient engine apparatus, the unit differed, in addition to the hull built in steel and for the most modern armament for some details of the external aspect: only two Latin sail masts, instead of three, the long castle and the aft shed destinable, to the occasion of lodging of characters of passage.

Although it was a successful unit, his anachronism (twenty-year-old construction plans and wheeled propulsion) conditioned his short life. Of the displacement of 1021 t, it was armed with four 7,5 guns.
