10 September 1873: Return of Vettor Pisani from his first circumnavigation of the globe

Wednesday - The propeller corvette Vettor Pisani under the command of frigate captain Giuseppe Lovera di Maria returns to Naples from his first circumnavigation trip on the globe, the second in an Italian military unit. In the Mediterranean crossing after the usual brief technical stop in Gibraltar (28 August-2 September), it was Escombreras (Cartagena) where the Italian team commanded by Vice-Admiral Enrico Di Brocchetti supervised the events of the Spanish revolution. The voyage of circumnavigation of Vettor Pisani lasted 27 months resulted in 48 thousand miles traveled of which 40 000 sailed with the visit to 41 ports.

The long campaign conducted with skill and seafaring skill, received the full approval of the minister of the Navy who praised and compensated the commander Lovera di Maria with the awarding of the honorary title of officer of the Order of the Crown of Italy.
