Syria, the revenge of the rebels: Damascus for a week without water

Damascus has been without water for a week. This is confirmed by several of our local sources.

The Syrian capital is mainly supplied by the Ein Al Fijah spring, located about 15 kilometers away. The area has been hostage for years by a rebel faction that calls itself the "Barada Valley Mujahideen Council": a local initiative not connected to the much more famous "brands" involved in the conflict.

Last week, to hit the inhabitants (mostly loyal to the government ...) of Damascus and surrounding villages, diesel fuel was initially introduced into the water flow, then three large pipelines were blown up.

These actions are nothing new in the Damascus chronicle of recent years. In the 2015 the same group had tried to sabotage the water supply to the city (in the video below an old proclamation of theirs).

After the first "hardships", the population has now begun desperately to collect rainwater from the roofs. The Syrian armed forces have been trying to regain control of Ein Al Fijah for days.
