French in Libya, population against

(To Francesco Bergamo)

Three French soldiers of the special forces who died a few days ago, following the fall of the helicopter they were traveling on, shot down by the Islamist militias in Benghazi, were enough to trigger protests. Prime Minister Al Sarraj is indignant and the people are furious.

France for some time has provided more or less discreet help, special forces and intelligence to General Khalifa Haftar until the plane crash. The rumor had been around for a while, then it became public knowledge.

The Libyan people, at least the one considered close to President Fayez Al Sarraj, did not take it very well as they consider France the promoter of Gaddafi's fall. In Tripoli, demonstrations against France would take place.

We had already informed our readers that the majority of the Libyan people would not accept external aid other than Italian ones (v.articolo). However, the part of public opinion that is with Khalifa Haftar remains: it is, at the moment, willing to accept interference (also) from France.
