The Army is invoked to guarantee mobility. But...

The request comes from the president of ASSOUTS Furio Truzzi, after the new anti-pandemic restrictions that are decimating even more the sector of public services already hit hard and waiting for new refreshments. L'National Association of Public Services Users, was born in January 1982, to protect and promote the fundamental rights of consumers, in particular of users of public services.

With a note to Prime Minister Draghi, Minister of Health Roberto Speranza and General Figliuolo, extraordinary commissioner, Truzzi essentially asks, in addition to a synergistic use of the Armed Forces and police to combat anti-covid violations, the use of conductors and military maneuvers to ensure the mobility of buses and trains.

An insidious enemy and too much confusion and words

Since the outbreak of the pandemic (but already in the last months of 2019 there were abnormal hospitalizations for pneumonia), preventive activities such as the lockdown to ensure the safety of citizens, activating the voluntary third sector to meet the needs. However, with an invisible and mysterious enemy that has generated, as expected, a fluctuating trend of efficiency and credibility, today the relationship between citizens and politics is more than ever under discussion. Too many statements, contradictions and words on the mass media that have created an ideological rift and tensions among citizens and perhaps too much mistrust, in addition to the serious risks of business failure.

The Army and the defense of the country

If there is an enemy there must also be an army that intervenes in civil protection, and what Truzzi requests does not ethically make a turn, at least if we compare it to that delusional policy which, having done badly the accounts in the regional and municipal budgets, he called on the Armed Forces to clean up the streets or resurfaced them.

Leaving aside the contradictory aspects of this emergency, the idea might work, but there are many "buts". Among these is the embarrassing fact that once again the military sector is called into question for tasks that are not properly in line with its duties. If we were talking about hospital trains managed by the railway genius and Sanità, there would be nothing to comment on, if anything to praise. In this regard, we point out that at the Bologna station the regiment of the railway engineer of Castel Maggiore is active and some other indiscretion would indicate the presence of soldiers in other stations in Emilia Romagna.

We could ask ourselves how many buses the Armed Forces have to use for city or regional routes, but this is a data on which there is no information.

Military on civilian buses

This solution, to which the conductors of the auxiliary corps could be added, could have followed above all if the military drivers could drive the civilian buses which obviously represent a greater number. Precisely by virtue of the many "buts" one wonders why there are not enough civil conductors. We recall that during the Second World War it was women who replaced the men, called to the front, to maneuver the trams.

What's behind the shortage of drivers

If it is true that the regulations decreed by the last Dpcm of the Draghi government have buried the road transport sector even more, it is also true that many drivers have tested positive even if totally asymptomatic, therefore precautionally suspended from work as expected.

The truth about the shortage of drivers is actually another, a little more inconvenient: salaries that have been inactive for twenty years recognize the driver a wage of 1.400 euros (often less) for a daily work of 12 hours without overtime. . This parameter, 140, is what is proposed even when you change company, but you have years of experience.

On the rental contracts things are even worse for this reason the refreshment points approved by the Minister Giavannini have been established, but what goes into the pockets of the drivers? If we add to this reality the unresolved problems that the conductor encounters daily with passengers and on the road, the idea of totally changing jobs is really great. The problem is not solved even by driving the most diligent extra-community driver willing to do anything. In fact, they run away too.
