Last September, during an air raid, conducted in the Syrian territory by Israeli F-16 fighters, a Russian aircraft for the electronic war Ilyushin Il-20M was shot down by mistake.

The friendly fire, caused by the Syrians, occurred near the strategic port city of Latakia, a few miles north of the Russian naval base of Tartus.

It should be noted that the anti-aircraft device in Damascus is based on obsolete radar guide systems, such as the S-200, the S-125 (SA-3 GOA in NATO code) and the S-75 (SA-2 GUIDELINE); positioned in fixed positions in the three areas of strategic interest: Golan Heights, Damascus and coastal strip; It also has SA-6 GAINFUL and SA-8 GECKO mobile batteries.

Also due to the overthrow of Ilyushin, Moscow has decided to supply Syria with more modern defensive armaments such as S-300V4 air surface missiles equipped with I / J bandwidth radar / I / J shooting system 30N63 FLAP LID A and surveillance radar 36D6 TIN SHIELD and 76N6 CLAM SHELL to intercept low altitude aircraft. These devices will allow Damascus to control much of the Israeli airspace. In fact, with the complete development of the F-35 program, the air forces with the star of David, probably, will increase the raids on the Syrian territory, even to hit the Iranian device.

The next war of friction between Israel and Syria will be a valid test for testing capabilities stealth of the new Lockheed fighter.
