According to the provisions of the Strategic Systems Program of the US NAVY, two Trident-II D5 missiles (SLBM - submarine launched ballistic missile) were launched in the past few hours. They represent, respectively, the 156 ° and the 157 ° launch of a Trident since it entered service in the 1989.

The launches, the 7 and the 9 last November, had to demonstrate some parameters in the real tests of the new program of life extension of the sub-launched weapon system.

The two missiles, both unarmed, were launched by the Ohio-class boomer 'USS Kentucky' (SSBN 737) in the Test Range of the Pacific, off the coast of Southern California. This is what STRATCOM has officially announced, which oversees the US nuclear arsenal.
