Today, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto attended the inauguration of the Kuçova NATO air base in Albania. The highest Albanian authorities were present at the ceremony: the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, the President of Parliament, Lindita Nikolla, the Prime Minister, Edi Rama, the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi as well as the US Chargé d'Affaires David Wisner.

“Our presence – declared the minister - testifies to Italy's commitment alongside Albania, a country with which we share profound historical, cultural and friendship ties due to the geographical proximity and the vision that unites us".

“The inauguration of the Kuçova air base – continued Minister Crosetto - It is not only a significant milestone in our bilateral cooperation, but also a turning point for the entire Western Balkans region and a concrete example of the shared commitment to the security, cooperation and development of the Region. The base is a starting point for common initiatives that could include defense, professional training and collaboration in the industrial field, but also emergency response."

The project also materializes the collaboration between Italy and Albania in the defense sector; Italy, in fact, actively participates in the air defense of the skies of Albania, in the education and training of the Albanian Armed Forces, regularly carrying out joint military exercises, which strengthen operational compatibility and promote the exchange of knowledge.
