In the budget for the 2017 fiscal year, the Pentagon has reshaped the request for additional troop deployment in Europe as part of a massive increase in defense positions on the old continent. In the new financial instrument, the Pentagon has requested 3,4 billions of dollars of budget for the European Reassurance Initiative, an operation launched by the United States to increase the military capabilities of its allies in Eastern Europe in the context of the Ukrainian crisis.

In the fiscal year 2016, 780 million dollars have been allocated for the European Reassurance Initiative. The Pentagon would like to transfer to Europe what is called Heavy Brigade Combat Team, armored brigade supported by artillery and special troops. The redeployment of the Heavy Brigade Combat Team - the Pentagon explains - comes in response to tensions with Russia after the violent clashes in eastern Ukraine. "The increase in spending is a show of strength in order to highlight the American commitment to NATO partners."

In a few hours the new financial instrument will be presented, in Washington, by the Secretary of Defense Ash Carter.
