Iraq, ISIS withdraws: the city of Sinjar freed

Masoud Barzani, president of the Iraqi Kurdish region, announced a few minutes ago the liberation of the city of Sinjar after a major operation against the Islamic state.

The offensive, led by Iraqi Peshmerga forces in the autonomous Kurdish region, also involved US air support and Yazidi minority fighters.

About 7.500 fighters participated in the operation started 48 hours ago.

Interrupted supply lines used by ISIS in the "Highway 47", which passes from Sinjar and indirectly connects two large strongholds: Raqqa, in Syria and Mosul in northern Iraq.
