Second scramble in two days for the Air Force fighters

(To air Force)
22/07/18

Second flight intercepted in two days by a fighter couple of the Italian Air Force. The two Euro Fighter of the 51 ° Stormo di Istrana, in readiness for the surveillance service of the national airspace, got up quickly, in the late morning, to intercept a Boing 737 aircraft of the Transavia company flying from Kos (Greece) to Amsterdam (Holland ). Only a temporary interruption of communications for the aircraft which, once radio contact was restored with the air traffic control bodies, continued on the predetermined route.

The first scramble instead took place yesterday to intercept an Airbus 320 aircraft of the Easyjet company flying from Heraklion (Greece) to Bordeaux (France) which also in this case had temporarily lost radio contact. The immediate take-off on yesterday's alarm was carried out by two fighters of the 4 ° Stormo di Grosseto.

The fighters are detained on the orders of the CAOC (Combined Air Operation Center) of Torrejon (Spain), a NATO body responsible for the surveillance of the skies in the area, which ordered the immediate takeoff on alarm - in technical jargon Scramble- to intercept the aircraft in distress and verify the nature of the problem. A few minutes after take-off, the two interceptors established visual contact with the civil aircraft, ensuring that the latter was not in an emergency condition. Once communications were restored, the same continued on the pre-established route, while the two fighters, the alarm ceased, returned to base.
