In the late afternoon yesterday, sergeant major Mirko Rossi, 41, in force at the 17th Wing of the Italian Air Force, lost his life following the impact on the ground during a pre-planned parachute launch training activity that was taking place at the Military Airport of Guidonia (RM).
The unskilled officer died at the Gemelli Policlinico in Rome, where he was transported by a 118 helicopter.
After the incident, the major sergeant was immediately rescued by the military medical personnel present on the ground.
The Military Air Force has activated procedures to ascertain the causes of the accident.
