A hunting couple Euro Fighter of the Italian Air Force, in readiness for the surveillance service of the national airspace, they got up quickly around 13.00 hours from the air base of Grosseto, home of the 4 ° Stormo, to intercept an Airbus 320 aircraft of the airline Easyjet in flight from Heraklion (Greece) to Bordeaux (France) which had temporarily lost radio contacts with air traffic bodies.

The two fighters intervened on the order of the CAOC (Combined Air Operation Center) of Torrejon (Spain), a NATO body responsible for the surveillance of the skies in the area, which ordered the immediate takeoff on alarm - in technical jargon Scramble - to intercept the aircraft in distress and verify the nature of the problem. A few minutes after take-off, the two interceptors established visual contact with the civil aircraft, ensuring that the latter was not in an emergency condition. Once communications were restored, the same continued on the pre-established route, while the two fighters, the alarm ceased, returned to base.
