Regia Aeronautica prima, Aeronautica Militare today, the Armed Forces was born on 28 in March 1923 with the Royal Decree n ° 645.

Its 96 years of life have been marked by the great aviation companies of the pioneers, by the progress of the skills expressed and by the daily commitment of men and women who, representing a rich heritage of values, principles, have contributed day after day to write the history and identity of our Armed Force.

Yesterday as today, the personnel and aircraft of the Armed Forces are engaged in numerous areas of the globe to counter threats to Italy and ensure compliance with the principles of international legality and fundamental human rights.

As recently stated by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, general of the air squad Alberto Rosso "Air Force airplanes have been flying over the skies all over the world for 96 years, always following the same vocation: to serve Italy, to be useful to the country, to defend the homeland. In a century of history, evolution has been very rapid, progress has been overwhelming, in a flash we have gone from timid and short flights to more sophisticated aerospace systems and equally sophisticated techniques for using the vehicle airplane ".

The main task assigned today to the Air Force is to defend the Italian airspace from any violation, preventing and neutralizing any dangers coming from the sky, but also to offer support to peacekeeping missions outside national borders and to humanitarian missions.

There are many other capabilities and sectors of use that the Armed Force puts at the service of citizens including air rescue, emergency medical transport, high bio-containment transport for highly infectious patients, the meteorological service and air traffic control.

Furthermore, respecting the political will and international agreements, the Italian Air Force contributes, together with the other Armed Forces, to the security of the country and to the defense of vital national interests, conducting operations in Italy and abroad.

The Air Force proud of its history and its traditions is aware and ready to continue its commitment to serve the community, with the people, for the people, projected to the future, attentive to the present!
