17/04/15

Yesterday, a delegation of young students and teachers from the Istituto Comprensivo di Diso (Lecce) visited the Brindisi Airport Detachment as part of an in-depth project on environmental issues, atmospheric parameters and weather forecasts.

The staff of the Detachment entertained the children by illustrating the activities that are carried out at the Department, also through the projection of some films made by the Air Force Staff. The pupils then also had the opportunity to visit the control tower, the radar room and the weather station, where the service staff satisfied all their curiosities.

The little guests were explained and shown what an airport is, the function of the control tower, the radar room, the weather station and the service carried out by the airport falconer. The visit to the birds of prey represented a particularly exciting moment for the children, who were told the importance of the task carried out by the falconry service in favor of air safety.

After numerous questions, the children witnessed the landing and take-off of some civilian aircraft of the local Brindisi airport and the launch of the probe ball.

The Detachment, placed under the Support Service of the Logistic Command, ensures assistance to the United Nations "peacekeeping" and "humanitarian" operations that Italy hosts at the Salento Department. It also provides, 7 days a week, 7 days a year, assistance to civil aviation air navigation services, to passing aircraft belonging to NATO countries, providing logistical and administrative support to the Armed Forces in the area. toast.
