(To air Force)
19/08/15

One year after the 19 incident in August 2014, the Italian Air Force (AM), the municipal administration of Venarotta and the Arma Aeronautica Association (AAA) wanted to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of the four young officers of the 6 ° Stormo Ghedi (Brescia), the major Alessandro Dotto, Paolo Piero Franzese, Giuseppe Palminteri and Mariangela Valentini.

At the commemorative celebrations, organized under the patronage of the Defense General Staff, the family members of the four young aviators took part, the vice president of the Marche Region, dott.ssa Anna Casini, the aerial team general Maurizio Lodovisi, commander of the aerial team, the general of aerial team (on leave) Giovanni Sciandra, national president of AAA and a representative of the 6 ° Stormo Ghedi "Diavoli Rossi".

In memory of the four soldiers, a monument created by the sculptor Teodosio Campanelli of San Benedetto del Tronto was inaugurated in the afternoon. The work was placed in the square of the Addolorata, in Gimigliano, dominating the valley affected by the event. The monument depicts an Icarus in a recollection position, surrounded by four stems pointing towards the stars to symbolize the four aviators who yearn valiantly towards the stars (Virtute Siderum Tenus - Text shown on the cartouche of the coat of arms of the Armed Force).

The inauguration of the monument was preceded by a religious function reserved for family members and colleagues of the 6 ° Stormo, celebrated by Mons. Giovanni D'Ercole, Bishop of Ascoli Piceno at the church of SS. Quirico and Giulitta of Gimigliano. Afterwards, a wreath was placed and a commemorative plaque showing the names of the missing colleagues at the monument to the fallen of Venarotta, redeveloped for the occasion with the contribution of the AAA

In the evening, the Musical Band of the Italian Air Force performed at the Teatro Comunale di Venarotta for Venarottese citizenship with a clarinet quintet, conducted by the master lieutenant colonel Patrizio Esposito.

General Lodovisi, the highest authority of the AM intervened, said: "today's commemorative celebrations are intended to be a tangible sign of the memory that the Armed Force keeps of these four young lives, spent in the service and defense of the country. I would like to thank all who have made this possible, from military personnel engaged in various capacities, to local and regional institutions, to the AAA, to the many citizens who have never lost their closeness to their families and the Air Force in all this time. Today, it is simply time to remember Paolo Piero, Giuseppe, Mariangela and Alessandro. The Armed Force immediately felt the support of the local community which intended to organize these celebrations as evidence of the strong bond that, albeit on the occasion of such a painful event, has been established with the families of young people and the AOS. In addition, the Air Force welcomed the initiative financed by the AAA, with the free contribution of colleagues and citizens, aimed at creating a work that would remember the 4 aviators but which, at the same time, told the passion of a dream , conducted with dedication and ardor, sacrifice and commitment, the flight. The flight that we take off every day with our aircraft to ensure the defense of our country, to bring hope to those in difficulty or to save lives with emergency medical transport. This is our essence and we must never forget that we have a moral obligation to continue doing it with the utmost professionalism for them too."
