Railway accident: the 15 ° Stormo intervenes

Yesterday evening an HH-139A helicopter of the 83rd Flight Group of the 15 ° Stormo of the Italian Air Force was alerted to carry out the transport of a young man who, following a train accident on the La Spezia-Bologna route, suffered a very serious crushing trauma with multiple fracture.

The crew "in alarm alert", on the order of the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) of the Air Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico (FE), following the request received from the Territorial Office of the Government (UTG) of La Spezia, took off from the military airport of Cervia at the time of the operations area.

The crew was engaged in a serious traumatized transport activity from La Spezia to the Bologna airport. The intervention took place with the help of the NVGs night vision goggles (Night Vision Goggles) that allowed the crew to operate at night in full safety and efficiency.

The 83 ° Group Flight is one of the departments of the 15 ° Wing of the Air Force that guarantees 24 hours on 24, for 365 days a year, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, also contributing to activities of public utility such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of the sick in danger of life and the rescue of serious traumatized persons.

Since its establishment to date, the crews of the 15 ° Stormo have saved around 7000 people in danger of life.
