The head of SMA visits the Guidonia Aerocooperation School

The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Pasquale Preziosa, air force general, visited the Aerocooperation school of Guidonia (RM), where he was received by the commander, Brigadier General Fabio Giunchi, and his closest collaborators.

After a brief introduction on the organization, the institutional tasks and the capacities expressed by the Inter-Force Institute, General Preziosa attended a specific briefing by General Giunchi focused on the training offer of the two training sectors (Remote Sensing and Aerocooperation) and on recent developments of the teaching given in the respective RADAR-Imaging and FAC (Forward Air Controllers) training procedures, recently certified by NATO and updated in order to fully meet the needs received by the armed forces and in line with technological developments, thanks to the numerous collaborations established over the years with academic circles and the main national and international organizations in the aerospace sector.

The visit then continued with a demonstration of the skills and potential expressed by the School's FAC simulator which, in terms of realism, immersion, scenario quality, integration with real systems and equipment and technical fidelity, allows, in accordance with the requirements of the reference NATO legislation, to plan and conduct virtual missions of Close Air Support (close air support), significantly reducing overall training costs.

In the field of remote sensing, the chief of staff was able to assess the skills acquired and the technological level achieved by the School, in specialized and technical-operational training in the field of interpretation and analysis of remote sensing images (aerial and satellite) and to deepen innovations introduced by the new and specific courses on Synthetic Aperture Radar imaging for sensors on UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), for foreign personnel and for the defense industry.

At the end of the visit, General Preziosa, with the traditional signature of the Register of Honor, greeted General Giunchi underlining how “the competence, passion and professionalism that I was able to capture today, the quality and quantity of the courses offered to point, they fully confirm the now widespread conception that the Aerocooperation school it is an excellence in the field of Defense training and training, and an added value for the operations of the Air Force and other Armed Forces ".

The Aerocooperation School is the military inter-agency of specialized training and technical-operative value in the field of the interpretation of remote sensing images (aerial and satellite) and in that of aeroterrestre and aeronavale cooperation. The training / training processes for Image Interpreters SAR and Forward Air Controllers have also obtained NATO certification. For the training and qualification of Forward Air Controllers, the School commander is the "National Certification Authority".

The courses of the School of Aerocooperation are open, in addition to the military personnel of the Armed Forces, also to personnel outside the Administration of Defense and military personnel of NATO and the countries participating in the International Partnership for Peace program (PfP - Partnership for Peace), subject to authorization by the General Staff Defense.
