The activity took place at the 17 ° Stormo, where the instructors of the local Section EOR / EOD, proposed six different scenarios, built on the basis of the most frequent threats present in the various Operating Theaters.
The visitors were able to run into an "IED Factory", (site where the terrorists assemble the improvised explosive devices) and in an "Improvised Rocket Site" (improvised ramps and craft trigger systems, for rocket launches) providing , in both cases, to carry out the procedures necessary to secure the areas concerned.
The training was also aimed at effectively managing the defusing of the most lethal types of bombs, including "Pressure Plate" (pressure plate, positioned along roads with greater traffic, aimed at striking moving convoys) and "EFP" (Explosively Formed Projectile - used to penetrate the armor of armored vehicles), as well as to manage the attack of a virtual suicide bomber with an explosive jacket and locate cache (place where enemy forces conceal weapons and ammunition) defended by the so-called booby traps, anti-removal trap.
The constant synergy with the EDD (Explosive Detection Dog) units, made available by the AM Dog Center in Grosseto, meant that the activities were carried out in a framework of great realism and involvement by all the participating IEDD Operators.
In the month of September, during the IEDD PRAEX 2015 exercise, an IEDD team of the Spanish Armed Forces will be hosted at the 17 ° Stormo, to carry out similar activities jointly with the Italian FA team, as part of the exchange program organized by the EAG (European Air Group), to guarantee joint training and maximum interoperability in the wider European context.
The EOR / EOD Section (Explosive Ordnance Reconnaissance / Explosive Ordnance Disposal) of the 17 ° Stormo Incursori is configured as a niche of excellence of the Armed Force, both from an operational and a training point of view, in the sector of the recognition and deactivation of explosive devices. improvised and not.
The more and more frequent engagements of the Armed Force in Operations Outside National Borders, have implied the growing involvement of Section personnel, employed in the field of fighting IED (Improvised Explosive Device). Precisely this experience in the field and the considerable technical-professional skills, have contributed to the development of a profitable training and teaching activity, which today are made available to visitors, by the instructors of the Section, on the occasion of the courses that take place. at the 17 ° Stormo.
