On Sunday an Airbus A319CJ aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino (Rome), carried out a transoceanic humanitarian flight to transport a small patient from Lecce to the United States, where he will receive special medical care in a highly specialized facility.

The flight, requested by the Prefecture of Lecce, was authorized by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers through the Situation Room of the Air Squad Command of the Air Force of Rome.

The aircraft, which departed in the morning from Ciampino airport, arrived at the Brindisi Air Force Detachment boarding the little patient accompanied by her mother and brother, leaving for Shannon international airport (Ireland) for a technical stop .

Subsequently, it took off for Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania - USA), where the little girl will be admitted to the “Children's Hospital” for a multi-organ transplant.

Brindisi airport is often used for these types of flights as it is strategically close to the major hospitals in southern Salento. The aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino are used for the transport of state and for missions of public utility, such as emergency medical transport of patients, serious traumatized and transplant organs, as well as for interventions in favor of people however in risk situations. This last activity, given the imminent danger of life of the people transported, imposes a level of readiness, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
