From 10 to 21 July, a personnel cell of the 6th wing of the Italian Air Force, equipped with PA-200 "Tornado" ECR (Electronic Combat Reconnaissance) version aircraft, deployed to Lechfeld Air Base in Germany to carry out training missions at the multinational center for electronic warfare tactics MAEWTF (Multinational Aircrew Electronic Warfare Tactics Facility) Polygone.

The training activity, inserted within a dynamic and varied scenario with a high density of missile and electronic threats and increasing difficulty, has allowed the crews involved to maintain the maximum level of operational capability in a complex electromagnetic environment.

Depending on the planned missions, various objectives have been achieved, such as: training flight crews to perform evasive maneuvers against ground-to-air threats, recognizing and locating emissions in the electromagnetic band typically used by land-based air defense radar systems, planning and executing SEAD/DEAD (Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defense) suppression missions of enemy air defenses.

The exercise event allowed the "Diavoli Rossi" to acquire the maximum training return, consequently confirming the weapon system Tornado with ETS (Electronic Warfare Tactical Suppression) operational capability as a valuable asset capable of operating effectively in contexts with high threat exposure.

The 6th Stormo “Alfredo Fusco” has the task of acquiring and maintaining the capability to carry out attack operations, reconnaissance and support to surface forces, electronic reconnaissance and support to strike forces against targets related to forces and potential enemies.

Ensure the operational reconversion and standardization of the flight crews assigned to the line Tornado IDS/ECR for their subsequent inclusion in the Operational Departments.

It depends hierarchically on command combat forces (CFC) based in Milan, in turn employed by command of the air squad (CSA) based in Palazzo Aeronautica in Rome.
