Observations from a "tourist" visiting Rome

29/02/16

Dear Director, as an assiduous reader, I take this opportunity to extend my sincere congratulations to you and your collaborators for the professionalism and dedication with which you take care of this important source of information that has become Online Defense. Just to stay on the topic of "professionalism", I would like to express some of my considerations about the security framework: the one, to be clear, immediately perceptible by the classic tourist, along the streets of our big cities.

From recent trips to Rome and Milan, I have noticed two different ways of understanding ... "territorial control", depending on whether it was carried out by the Police and / or Carabinieri in one case or Army in the other. I noticed, in fact, that, if on the one hand, the Police and / or the Carabinieri, have the tendency, in my opinion rather senseless, to gather in ... "small groups" in front of sensitive places, on the other the Army patrols are often in movement, they maintain adequate distances even in a fixed position, attention is certainly more vigilant (I have never seen them chat with each other) and the look is concentrated on the surrounding area. The motivation in them seemed decidedly high to me.

Now, in the unfortunate hypothesis of attacks ... "premeditated", in the first case it is very likely to quickly eliminate an entire guard nucleus (which would have moreover a low capacity of reaction), while in the second, the hypothetical attacker would definitely see it worse.

Mine are considerations that are based on what I have seen and that have brought back to mind those basic concepts, repeated by sergeants of ... "good will", learned during the "naja".

My best regards.

Dear reader, thank you for the letter that will surely trigger a heated - but hopefully "healthy" - debate. Given that the Army soldiers are employed to support the public security authorities responsible for fighting crime and protecting security, or that the "professionals" are the policemen and the carabinieri, the only consideration I can make is that I fully agrees with the commitment shown by the boys and girls in camouflage who watch the streets.

However, remember that the most delicate work of public security officers is done with discretion, behind the scenes.
