21/07/2015 - The Horse Artillery Regiment and the Lagunari Regiment concluded the “Eagle Shore 2015” amphibious exercise at the Milan seaplane base this afternoon.
For the first time in history, the two regiments of the Italian Army conducted together a suggestive exercise in the Milanese seaplane base which, thanks to an agreement between the Armed Forces and the Metropolitan City of Milan, has been available since December 2014. of the Horse Regiment for its amphibious training activities.
The exercise took place in the presence of Major General Flaviano Godio, commander of the "Friuli" Division, of Brigadier General Claudio Rondano, commander of the Lombardy Tactical Regroup and responsible for the "Safe Roads" and "Expo" operation and of the general of Domenico Pace brigade, commander of the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” Cavalry Brigade.
In particular, the soldiers of the two regiments, coordinated by Colonel Luca Franchini, commander of the Horse Artillery Regiment, were employed in planning and conducting amphibious operations, training in the hydroscale basin for movement in water with boats and simulating a NEO Operation (Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation), or the evacuation of civilian personnel from a place where safety conditions have failed, also due to natural disasters.
Two pairs of the Italian Army dog group participated in the exercise, as well as 50 men and women of the "Voloire" Horse Artillery Regiment, the "Serenissima" Lagunari Regiment and personnel of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" Brigade, from which two regiments depend. Device that has also benefited from the assistance of a security framework provided by the divers of the Local Police and Civil Defense who regularly work at the Idroscalo.
The exercise, in addition to giving the brigade departments the opportunity to carry out a specific amphibious training activity at “zero cost”, has therefore allowed to strengthen the synergy between local institutions and the Army.
Since 2006, the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” Brigade has been included in the National Sea Projection Capacity, a rapid reaction landing force involving departments of various Armed Forces that must know how to operate in marine environments and moving aboard naval vessels. The Italian Army in particular employs for this capacity the units of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" Cavalry Brigade, among which operate, in addition to the aforementioned Horse Artillery Regiments and Serenissima Lagunari, also the 3rd Engineers Regiment of Udine, the Regiment Logistics of Remanzacco and the Genoa Cavalry Regiment (4th) based in Palmanova (UD). The Projection Force from the Sea was used on a mission for the first time during Operation "Leonte" in Lebanon.
The soldiers exercised today are employed in the “Expo” Operation, contributing from May 1st, in collaboration with the Police, to the safety of the site of the Universal Exposition.
