16/07/2015 - The fire alarm is back in Sardinia. This time in the Zurru S'Elia area, 20 km north of the city of Cagliari. The flames broke out in a wooded area near the neighboring village of Barrali (CA), which, thanks to the high temperatures of these days, spread very rapidly in the undergrowth on at least three fronts, becoming particularly insidious.
The intervention was carried out by an AB-205 UH1 "Huey" helicopter of the 21 ° army aviation squadrons group based in Elmas (CA).
Received the alert call, around the 1630, from the Unified Operating Center (CAOU) of Rome, after a few minutes the crew took off reaching the area of the fire in about 10 minutes, starting immediately to work in collaboration with the teams to Forestry land, other helicopters and a Canadair.
The situation returned to normal around the 1815 when, when the fire was extinguished, the helicopter returned to the base.
The intervention falls within the framework of activities to combat forest fires, for which the Army Aviation is actively engaged throughout the summer, using its air structures in continuous readiness of the flight department stationed in Cagliari.
