22/04/2015 - On the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the Atlantic Alliance, the Atlantic Youth Club of Gorizia organized a conference entitled: From the Atlantic Pact to NATO of the 3rd Millennium.
The meeting, held at the Faculty of International and Diplomatic Sciences of the University of Trieste, based in Gorizia, was constructive and intellectually enjoyable, allowing a large audience to enjoy the undisputed expertise and preparation of the three speakers: Prof Georg Meyr, Prof. Giulia Caccamo and Dr. Costantino Filidoro.
Prof. Caccamo in a detailed examination of the historical political events that led to the creation of the Alliance provided food for thought on the eternal alternation between isolationism and interventionism in the context of US foreign policy, in addition to recalling the Kennan doctrine and political-diplomatic needs related to the Truman doctrine and the Marshall Plan.
On the basis of the food for thought provided by Prof. Caccamo, Prof. Meyr has investigated issues related to the origins of the US political approach from the birth of the thirteen colonies to the Second World Conflict, so the reasons why there was the need to give birth to the military alliance then called NATO and the deep ties of this organization with the very concept of the West.
The conference ended with the rigorous intervention of dr. Filidoro, a great expert on "things from NATO" who in detail explained what NATO is today, retracing the complex rebirth of the Alliance following the dissolving of the Soviet bloc, and then providing a perspective view of the objectives of the Atlantic Pact by today the 2020.
In the report of dr. Filidoro political dynamism-the Alliance's dichotomy was also observed through its aspects of expansion, not without some dialectic note, supported by public interventions, on the roles of the member states and the need not to reduce the entire Alliance to mutual military aid summarized in the Art. 5.
Once again, the effective organization of the Youth Club of Gorizia through the enthusiasm and tenacity of its members has made it possible to realize an edifying moment of reflection, which is of deep interest because it is suitable to broaden the knowledge of the whole geopolitical picture, increasingly articulated and becoming.
