11 March 1900: They leave the base camp and begin the march of approach to the 13 Polo men of the expedition of the Duke of Abruzzi, each on a sled pulled by Eskimo dogs.
An accident occurred to Louis of Savoy during a training march on the pack (amputation of some phalanxes) in the 1899's Christmas he forced him to remain in the camp and to give the command to Umberto Cagni.
Divided into three teams led respectively by Cagni, Querini and Cavalli Mulinelli, only the first will succeed, at the limit of physical possibilities, in continuing the march.
The 26 March the second team led by Querini will take the way back but will never reach the base camp, dispersed on the pack; the third team led by the doctor Cavalli Molinelli, who started last on the 31 in March, will return after 16 days of difficult march between suffering and hardship.
