Thursday - Under the command of the lieutenant Giuseppe Diaz, the submarine Argonauta, built at the FIAT-San Giorgio del Muggiano shipyard, comes into service in Spezia.
Initially built on behalf of the Russian Navy with 11 March 1913 on the airport, the 5 of 1914 was launched and requisitioned by the Regia Marina shortly before the outbreak of the European war, it was of the "Laurenti" type and its hull reproduced essentially that of class "Medusa".
Significant improvements were made by the foreign navy commission and referred mainly to the arrangement of a second periscope with the relative modification of the turret, the expansion of the maneuver room, the adoption of modern exhaustion pumps, the installation of more refined engines , retractable horizontal rudders to offer less resistance to advancement and the arrangement of an apparatus for underwater signaling.
The Argonaut, then assigned to the 2a Submarine Squadron, will be stationed in Ancona while the other squadron units - Pullino, Fisalia and Argo - will be posted to Venice.
