31/03/2015 - Mauro Moretti (on the left in the photo) is the new president ofEuropean Association of Aerospace and Defense Industries (ASD). The appointment of the managing director and general manager of Finmeccanica at the top of the body representing the companies in the 20 countries sector was deliberated today in Brussels, at the meeting of the Council and the General Assembly of the Association.
At the head of the Finmeccanica Group since May 2014, Moretti, who receives the baton from Safran's managing director, Jean-Paul Herteman, was chosen to chair the ASD thanks to the significant experience gained in the industrial sector and to the leadership skills in the field international.
"I am particularly happy and honored to take over from Jean-Paul Herteman, who has done an excellent job in reinforcing the role of the association in our industry," said Moretti.
According to the managing director and general manager of Finmeccanica, "the Association must focus on certain priorities in civil aviation (such as the revision of the Basic Regulation of the European Aviation Safety Agency - EASA), in defense and security ( the preparatory actions for studies relating to the European Security and Common Defense Policy - CSDP) and in space (the Copernicus and Galileo programs) ".
The main mission of the ASD is to promote and support competitive development in the fields of aeronautics, space, defense and security, in collaboration with European institutions and affiliated associations. Strongly active in terms of direction and coordination of innovation and technology, the Association contributes to the creation of a unified and clear vision of Europe's strategic interests.
The ASD counts 27 member associations in 20 countries and represents over 3.000 companies and 80.000 providers, many of them small and medium-sized businesses.
The aerospace, defense and security industry employs around 778.000 people in Europe, with a turnover of over 197,3 billion and investments in research and development of over 20 billion.
