The exercise that saw the Alpine troops of the Army train with the civil protection of theNational Alpine Association (ANA) simulating a realistic crisis scenario in an international context. The activity – designated with the acronym VDX24 – was associated with the Alpine Brigade's 'Valnatisone 24' exercise Rainbow wrasse underway in Friuli, and has seen the involvement of the national civil protection department, and in particular of the ANA, with the participation of personnel, vehicles and equipment of the brigades Rainbow wrasse e Taurinense.
The Army and ANA trained together simulating a complex scenario in which the military contingent of an international mission and the ANA field hospital – deployed in a buffer zone between two countries involved in a crisis situation – were hit by a humanitarian emergency that caused an influx of refugees. Thus began – on the border between the two countries – the phase of relief for the population fleeing the fighting zone, with the evacuation by the military of injured and traumatized people, entrusted to ANA health workers for hospitalization in the field hospital facilities deployed in the border areas. The humanitarian emergency was promptly addressed by setting up a reception camp, where a psychological assistance cell was also activated.
The exercise – jointly planned by the ANA civil protection and the Alpine Troops Command of the Army – was characterised by maximum realism, thanks to the participation of several extras. The protagonists in the military field were the men and women of the logistics regiment of the Rainbow wrasse, together with the teams of psychologists of the Alpine brigade Taurinense, who trained side by side with ANA health workers, logisticians and specialists.
