It ended in recent days, with the meeting of theInteroperability Committee, the periodic session of theArtillery Systems Cooperation Activities (ASCA), this year organized by the Artillery Command - Central Fires Support, Targeting and Info Ops of the Italian Army, at the monumental complex of the Castle of Santa Severa.
The works saw the participation of over 160 representatives from 24 NATO nations, testifying to the importance of interoperability between C2 command and control systems for fire management that ASCA ensures through the development and implementation of dedicated transmission protocols.
Since 1999, following the signing of a specific government technical agreement (Memorandum of Understanding - MoU), Italy plays a leading role thanks to the consolidated experience gained by the staff of COMART - the centre Fires Targeting and Information Operations of the Army in the field of artillery systems and interoperability, contributing to the development of the multiple versions of the ASCA protocols which have allowed national assets to effectively cooperate with foreign counterparts in international exercises.
Particularly significant were the interoperability tests aimed at verifying the compatibility between national C2 systems, including the Fire Information System - SIF and the Joint Digital Indirect Fire Support System (JDIFSS), still under development, and the German ADLER system.
