After almost two months of intense activity, the Army's commitment to the flood emergency in Sardinia ended yesterday, January 15th. The units of the Sassari Brigade have intervened in favor of the population in the city of Olbia since the first hours of the emergency of last November 19th.

Army soldiers, in the 57 days of operation, have traveled 20.258 kilometers, removed 6000 cubic meters of water, handled over 5431 cubic meters of bulky waste and debris, for total 1244 hours of work carried out by earth-moving machines.

The "Sassarini" have also transported and distributed to the population affected by the flood events around 7000 tons of humanitarian aid and several hundred hot meals.

Thanks to the intervention of the men and women of the Sassari Brigade it has been possible to remove school buildings from water and debris which the same staff later arranged to rearrange to accommodate students, allowing schools to reopen in a few days .

Most of the interventions were carried out by the Genie Regiment of the Sassari Brigade which, thanks to its "dual-use" capacity, in addition to its operational use in international missions, is able to operate in cases of public calamities and utility. The Armed Force , at any time, has the ability to intervene to support the national community, proving to be a ready and flexible resource at the service of the country.
