Shooting school in the mountains for the Taurinense alpine brigade

The "Maurin 22" exercise, carried out at an altitude of 2400 m by the departments of the alpine brigade, was completed Taurinense of the Army, who trained in firing with heavy 120 mm mortars, with 105/14 howitzers and - in the framework of the training of Alpine infantry platoons - even with 60mm mortars. The purpose of the exercise was to consolidate and increase the ability to conduct tactical activities on fire and in white in different operational contexts, during the day and at night, in a mountain environment and in a scenario with a hybrid threat.

Organized by the 3rd Alpine regiment of Pinerolo, the "Maurin 22" also saw the participation of the 2nd Alpini of Cuneo and the 1st land (mountain) artillery stationed in Fossano who, in rotation, lined up in the arc three weeks at the Col Maurin shooting range and received a visit from the commander of the Alpine Army Troops, general of the army corps Ignazio Gamba, accompanied by General Nicola Piasente, commander of the Taurinense. Together with the 3rd Alpini, the pupil marshals of the Alpine Training Center of Aosta, whose activities were assisted by general Marcello Orsi, their commander.

Numerous objectives were achieved by the exercise: to test the planning and conduct process, to standardize operational procedures for the management of support fire, to verify the movement and combat capabilities in the mountain environment of the smaller units and, finally, to strengthen ties with the territory. For this reason, the Fanfare of the Taurinense performed in Dronero during the exercise period, registering a considerable participation of the public, while in the Municipality of Acceglio the Taurinense set up a space dedicated to the mountains, managing - with its own instructors - a natural climbing wall to involve young people.

The 32nd genius also worked in the context of the exercise with work to support the mobility of the departments exercised, also providing for the maintenance of the road leading to the polygon, which is also normally used by local communities.
