On Wednesday 19 October, the Army Chief of Staff, Gen. ca Pietro Serino, on the occasion of the exercise of the minor complex "Salentum 2", met the president of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano. The training activity was carried out in the area of Torre Veneri (LE) and consisted of the movements of a platoon exploring on busways Centaur 2 and VBL (Light Armored Vehicles) Puma 6x6 and a tank platoon Ram in focus in attack.

The battlefield also saw the entrance on the scene of a mini UAV team (composed of 4 men) of the ACISMOM military body formed by highly specialized personnel who simulated a CAS (close-air support) on three small boats at sea as well as drones and aircraft of the 61st flock of the Air Force of Galatina (LE). The set-up was used to search for hostile elements at sea. The Army Chief of Staff attended the exercise and paid close attention to the work of the team's personnel Mini UAVs.

Army Corps General Pietro Serino, Chief of Staff of the Army, visited the "Floriani" Barracks, headquarters of the Cavalry School. The Cavalry School is the institute for the training and specialization of officers, non-commissioned officers and volunteers of the Italian Army Cavalry.
The School constitutes an armored bus station and its main activities are aimed at the training, specialization and updating of all cavalry soldiers.

On the occasion he met the President of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, together with the Commander of the Training, Specialization and Doctrine of the Army, gen. ca Lamanna and the commander of the Cavalry School, gen. b. Dei and thanked Emiliano for the collaboration, the continuous dialogue and the great attention that Puglia pays to the Italian Army.

The head of EMS stated that “The management of the training areas is one of the most important challenges that await us. We can equip ourselves with the most advanced systems, but if we don't have areas to train we will not be effective. The use of simulators can help reduce the need for on-the-job training, which is also expensive in financial terms, but cannot replace it in its entirety. We continue to work in collaboration with local authorities to meet training needs and safeguard our environment ".

On the other hand, the president Emiliano who for the occasion showed off a polychrome jacket with a lot of writing "ARMY", uttered flattering words towards the armed force stating that “It is a great honor to be able to host the Army Chief of Staff. I thank him and express through him the pride and emotion we have in seeing these young people serving the country in such a delicate and difficult moment. And they do it with simplicity and affection, the same affection that allows you to keep this place. Puglia feels part of the Armed Forces and in particular of the Army: we host here some of the most technologically advanced units. "

Finally, the President of the Region addressed a greeting and thanks to the many Apulian members of the armed forces "Because they honor Puglia by serving Italy."

Of course, young people serve the country but does the country put these "young people" in the conditions to be able to serve it better? Are the means currently in use by the Italian armed forces that operate in particular in foreign theaters and will they be functional and performing even in any contexts such as that of the Russian-Ukrainian front? A high-intensity war is being fought a few steps away from our country and even if we do not see us directly interested on the battlefield at the moment, would we be ready to face what we would ever hope for?

Surely the Defense has taken and is taking measures in this regard.
