With the carrying out of the "GAVRILO" exercise, the preparation of the paratrooper riders for the next operational job was completed.
The personnel of the “Savoia Cavalleria” regiment (3rd) concluded the activities begun a few months ago, with a series of tactical acts of increasing complexity and focused on the exploratory capacity of the platoons of the cavalry regiment of the “Folgore” brigade.
The training activity was carried out in two phases in the full application of the Mission Command concept: that of planning, involving all the personnel exercised, and that of conduct, with isolated units detached on the ground for continuous periods.
The particular morphology of the terrain, of the training areas chosen for the activities, made it possible to create various difficulties in radio communications, useful for testing the commanders at every level to act on their own initiative so that the communication flow was guaranteed at all times.
The paratroopers have ventured into multiple activations similar to those of the operational theater in which they will go to operate in a few weeks, working within a highly realistic scenario and applying the specific ROE (Rules of Engagement).
Particular attention was paid to the acquisition and subsequent transmission of the information data to the superior command, in order to constantly guarantee an updated situational awareness within the area of operation through the establishment of a dense network of advanced observation posts.
The soldiers of "Savoy" also tried their hand at activating one Drop zone (launch area) within the Pian di Spille polygon (Tarquinia) where the qualified personnel commander of the patrol guide (COPAG) guaranteed an "clandestine" supply of food to the troops employed, by air-launch. In constant radio link with the air carrier that took off from Pisa airport, we proceeded with the delineation of the landing area and the attack route, obtaining the fall of the material in the exact point foreseen in the planning phase.
The Knights of Savoy, in full compliance with the regulations for the containment of the pandemic in progress, after a long preparation phase that began in January of this year, thus obtained the validation for foreign employment, proving capable of carrying out in safety and according to the doctrine all the tactical activities peculiar to the Cavalry.
