Last week, training for new crews ended in Udine Leopard Pioneer. The armored vehicle of the Engineers is still a fundamental tool to support the maneuver of heavy and medium forces. The qualification of six sappers to use the special vehicle allows the 3rd sappers regiment to have three new crews, ready to operate in any operational scenario both in Italy and abroad.

The specialist training lasted about 300 hours and was conducted, day or night, on the slopes specifically created in the Cormor training area (UD), allowing Leopard Pioneer qualified instructors to be able to transmit their experience and operational capacity to younger.

Under the constant supervision of the instructors, in compliance with the regulations for contrasting the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, a path of gradual difficulty was followed, with theoretical lessons and practical exercises that accompanied the students to the final qualification test.

Driving on uneven and unpaved paths, works on the battlefield and the removal of specially made passive obstacles, allowed students to acquire the techniques, tactics and procedures necessary to make the most of an armored vehicle that remains operational despite the years, capable of integrating into various types of tactical complexes, including those with an amphibious connotation, which characterize the 3rd regiment of genius destroyers.

The 3rd genius, of the cavalry brigade "Pozzuolo del Friuli", is the only unit of the Corps of Engineers to be inserted in the National Projection Screening Capacity (CNPM).
