The neutralization operations of a 250-pound aerial bomb dating back to the Second World War were concluded today at Boscomantico airport (VR).
The device was found in Dossobuono (VR). Immediately alerted, Army personnel went to the site for an initial risk assessment, verifying the state of preservation of the device and the conditions of the activation systems.
In the days preceding the neutralization operation, the 8th Regiment built a structure intended to reduce the risks deriving from a possible accidental explosion.
In order to safeguard safety, the intervention required adequate precautionary measures: in addition to the temporary closure of some roads and the Brenner and Mantua-Modena railway lines, in fact, approximately 80 residents from the surrounding areas were evacuated.
The operations, carefully coordinated by the Prefecture of Verona with the Command of Operational Forces North of Padua, were supported by the Police, the Fire Brigade and the Italian Red Cross. Once the sensitive organ was separated, the device was transported safely to the Boscomantico airport (VR), where it was finally neutralized.
North-East Italy continues to be an area with a high presence of war remnants dating back to the two world wars. In 2024 alone, the 8th Regiment carried out approximately 400 remediation operations and destroyed over 800 war devices of various types and calibers, in close collaboration with local prefectures, demonstrating the crucial role that the Army plays in the daily management of territorial security.
