In recent days, the Italian “Baltic” task group completed its first multinational exercise called “War Horse Forge”.
The exercise aimed to apply and perfect specific technical-tactical procedures at a complex tactical multi-weapon level, aimed at consolidating interoperability by aiming to achieve full integration between the various units of the MN battle group - LVA, led by Canada.
The exercise, in its continuous development of 5 days, saw the participation of units and assets belonging to the countries involved in the operation Forward Land Forces (FLF) in Latvia, which have been intensively engaged from the planning stage to the conduct, with the task of gradually achieving the ability to maneuver as a fully coordinated, combined operational instrument, to create a single and cohesive force, as an effective response to potential threats.
The Italian soldiers, whose operational component is mainly drawn from the 132nd armored brigade "Ariete" of the Italian Army, conducted the training by acquiring further familiarity with the terrain and the environment, adapting the employment procedures, testing the weapon systems, vehicles and materials in service. In an operational environment characterized by harsh climatic conditions, the logistical support guaranteed by the national assets to the maneuver units also played a key role, allowing the development of operational activities.
The training took the form of synchronisation and combined use of the various assets in force at the multinational battle group, consolidating the level of interoperability and standardising common operating procedures, aimed at making a possible intervention by the Allied Forces quicker and more effective in case of need.
The Italian units distinguished themselves in the conduct of precise tactical activities, demonstrating excellent capabilities to operate in synergy with other allied forces. The exercise simulated complex operational scenarios, testing both the procedural skills of the individual combatant and the collective ones of each unit.
